Wrapped in Blue

Happy hump day nerdly beautifuls! Lately I've been wearing mostly whites, blacks, and greys, and although I love dressing minimally, I noticed that it wasn't my closet lacking color, it was more so me not being daring enough on most days to wear colorful items. In an attempt to breakout of that mindset, I paired an old denim blouse with a stripped full midi skirt. I'm particularly proud of how this outfit came together, here's to taking more risks with my wardrobe :D

The Chunky Jumper Dress

Hello my nerdly beautifuls! Last week, I was in a relatively "lazy" mood in regards to dressing up. Not in a negative way (you gotta keep the mood swings stylish!), but I loved being able to throw things on and be on the go and this jumper dress from H&M helped me do just that! It is literally the perfect length, very comfortable and warm - kept me cozy all day!

Thank you so much for reading! Hope you're having a lovely week thus far. Xx

Jeweled Patterns

Salut mes beautes intelligentes (hello my nerdly beautifuls, I had some questions about what that meant haha)! Hope your year has been off to a great start! I picked up this jeweled printed dress the other day from H & M, and it really was love at first sight (PS it was on sale for $10, WIN!).The variety of some of my favorite colors on this dress makes it easier for me to work with it, expect more posts with cette belle in the near future! :)

For this look, I went with a more feminine approach. Heels and a light cardigan for lunch with family.

All photos taken by my lovely sister, Shalom :)

Aladdin Pants & Floral Patterns

"Energy is the currency of the universe. When you 'pay' attention to something, you buy that experience. So when you allow your consciousness to focus on something or someone that annoys you, you feed it your energy, and it reciprocates the experience of being annoyed. Be selective in your focus because your attention feeds the energy of it and keeps it alive. Not just within you, but in the collective consciousness as well." - Emily Maroutian

Salut mes beautes intelligentes!

Happy New Years Eve!!! In addition to celebrating making it into the new year during this very festive period, reflecting on the year is an essential exercise for me, even more so the older I get and the more responsibilities I have. It gives me a chance to understand new things I got to learn about myself, goals I was able to achieve and those I didn't (and why), what and who I'm most thankful for, new skills I may have developed, breakthrough moments, failures, and overall how my perception on life has evolved. As most of you probably know, NYE particularly comes with a lot of excitement, parties and activities(which I'm thoroughly looking forward to!) , but I'm really hoping I get to reflect/plan for the upcoming year, and I hope you do too! Talking about NYE, I still don't know what I'm wearing tonight or tomorrow - oh dear!

I usually don't opt for harem/Aladdin pants (they were sold as joggers but honestly they look like harem pants to me :D) because I used to think they just didn't fit right. This is the first pair I feel fits perfectly! It's also so comfortable, I could sleep in it. (Yea not happening, but you know what I mean :D). I picked up this floral top at a JC Penney store that closed down not too long ago for $4! It was their last day open and I walked in worried that everything was all gone, until I found this blouse. I love the vintage hint to it, and how well it complements the black pairing.

Goodbye NYC :(

"One belongs to New York instantly, one belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years." - Tom Wolfe

The quote above perfectly describes my emotions towards New York City at the moment, part of me feels like I "belong" here. When I just got here it was completely overwhelming, too busy, crowded and made me feel disconnected. Now, I can't believe that my stay here is over! The other day, I helped a few people that needed help navigating through the city and felt incredibly proud of myself, haha! Especially because that was me four weeks ago. :)

I wore this outfit to start off my last weekend here. We (my friends and I) planned on visiting the National History Museum, but ended up just catching up, reminiscing, shopping, and riding through Central Park. It was such lovely day! I plan on going to Coney Island today, I'll try to take more pictures!

Oh, and I wore this dress in another blogpost! Incase you're interested in other (more summery) ways you could wear it! :D (see here)

Brunch à Le Grainne Cafe

Salut mes beautés intelligentes! The other day I went out to brunch with a friend at a traditional french cafe located in one of the oldest buildings in Chelsea, and the food was AMAZING! It had a different ambience with its large corner windows, tin ceilings and tin walls - very reminiscent of a cafe in Paris (although I have never been). The service was also great, I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area.

I've been experimenting with new colors and patterns lately, and I realized I don't own a lot of grey pieces, except this one grey dress! It's the best feeling re-discovering hidden gems in your closet, haha :D

Vintage Flowers

"Because someone has looked into my eyes and has found the stars. And it is a terribly exotic, exhilarating and frightening feeling" - Lattice of Love Stories (and other life happenings)

Salut mes beautés intelligentes! Hope you all had a relaxing 4th of July weekend(I know I did). This outfit is slightly based on my previous post, as I picked up the cropped vintage top from the new Urban Outfitters down at Herald Square(you seriously have to check out this store!). I'm such a sucker for vintage clothing, accessories, and oddly enough, floral patterns/fabric that remind me of vintage furniture(as I have on here :D). The detailing on this blouse did just that. I opted for a black bell skirt to highlight the colors on the blouse, and a red satchel bag to tie in the look. Although I do not own own red heels (at least not yet haha), I think they'd be a great alternative to pair with this outfit.

Purple Triangles

The other day I was in the mood to wear something different from the colors I usually go for. I rarely wear purple, but there was something about this kaftan that made me steal it from my mother (sorry, mom).  It reminded me of the style that rocked women's fashion in Nigeria during the 80s. I wasn't born, but I've seen pictures, particularly those of my mom. I've always been a fan of kaftans, like these that have a bit of an Arab influence to them. They're so comfortable, and easy to wear!

I paired it with a matching head-tie, and opted for black accessories to keep the focus on the vibrant colors.
